Events and activities not to be missed in the Dolomites

Winter events in Val Gardena

Winter in Val Gardena is not just about skiing, snowshoeing and fun in the snow: much more awaits you for a winter holiday full of fun. There are two events to keep in mind: the Super G World Cup and downhill races and the Christmas markets.

In our valley, sport and tradition go hand in hand. The history of competitive skiing in Val Gardena began in 1970, when the World Cup came to the Saslong slope: its famous and fearsome camel humps and a speed of over 100 km/h thus entered the annals of this exciting sport.
On the other hand, the Christmas markets, which mark the season of Advent, are of another kind of beauty altogether. The Christmas Market in Selva di Val Gardena is as distinctive as it is original: the pretty cable car cabins carved in wood leave children and adults speechless.

Summer events in Val Gardena

Summer holidays in the mountains of the Dolomites in South Tyrol guarantee new exciting discoveries every day. Culture, nature and fun are the three pillars serving up the experiences for guests of the Hotel Stella.

The Tour of the 4 Passes by car offers a spectacular overview of the natural and cultural landscape of the Sella Group and the Ladin world. Travelling through the valleys of Fodom in the province of Belluno, Badia and Gardena in the province of Bolzano
and Fassa in the Autonomous Province of Trento, you can admire the typical rural architecture, how traditional sheep farming is kept alive and how the people of these valleys take care of pastures and woods.
The views of the Sassolungo Group, the Sassongher, the Odle, Pelmo, Civetta and Marmolada invite you to countless stops.
Three different destinations are worth a visit all year round to admire the landscape and the boundless horizons that characterise it: the Alpe di Siusi, the Seceda and the Dantercepies, three hiking and skiing areas equipped with modern lifts, welcoming huts, exciting trails and challenges for the most experienced mountaineers.
They say that life is a question of balance… but in this case, you can enjoy moments full of adrenaline without any risk: at the mountain station of the Mont de Seura chairlift, you will find the brand new Monte Pana Zipline. Secured to a cable with a safe harness and a pulley, you’ll fly for 1600 m and 409 m in altitude to the plateau of Monte Pana, reaching a maximum speed of 90 km/h. These are unique emotions in the unique scenery of Val Gardena.

The magic of Enrosadira

The magic of Enrosadira

The Val Gardena costume event, held every year in the first week of August in one of the three main towns of the valley, is in the spirit of tradition.
On this occasion, the people of Val Gardena stage an elegant, colourful procession that sees the traditional costumes of the Ladin people as protagonists.
Traditional music, folkloric dances and food stands make this event a great and engaging party open to all.
The Enrosadira phenomenon, the variation in the colour of the rock at sunrise and sunset, is certainly one of the features that make the Dolomites unique. In these moments, the mountains turn from red to purple in an impressive masterpiece of nature.
During the Dolomites Sunset and Sunrise walks starting from the Cristauta car park, you will pass through fairy-tale woods up to the Sëurasas viewpoint. From there, thanks to the particular light conditions that occur at sunrise and sunset, you can admire the beauty of the Dolomites and the magic of Enrosadira.

Autumn events in Val Gardena

Autumn in Val Gardena is the perfect time for those who love to spend their holidays in the mountains following a slower pace, who appreciate the embrace of a landscape dressed in elegant colours and who want to enjoy the last sunny days of the year. After the summer, the beginning of this evocative season is Törggelen time.

Törggelen

Törggelen

During this period – which takes its name from the Latin torquere, referring to the action of squeezing grapes with a press – the end of the harvest is celebrated with sweet must, new wine and typical dishes.
Chestnuts are a must, given the period, as well as meat dishes and typical peasant doughnuts filled with jam or poppy seeds. In autumn, in Val Gardena as in all of South Tyrol, the Törggelen is celebrated in farms and village inns.
